By the end of the competition, there were 1146 registered participants from 80 countries. In total, 55 solutions were submitted for problem 5, out of which 28 were correct.
As usual, when selecting the best solutions, preference has been given to those solutions which have been submitted before the publication of the first hint. Overall, there were 14 such solutions. Out of those, the pre-screening passed those whose were either typeset digitally or written with clear legible handwriting – most of the solutions passed this pre-screening. The next criterion was how well it was motivated that both emissivities need to be equal to 1. In many solutions, it was done numerically which was not optimal, because showing it analytically was not that difficult. As a result, only six solutions were left. Actually, out of those six, in two solutions it was somewhat sloppy how they handled the emissivity of the hot side; those two solutions (By EFAG and SS) are, however, still included in the list of the best solutions, because each of them had their own additional merits, see below. All the bonus scores are equal to 1/6.
